Two weeks of art

Last week we had holidays for Dashain. This week for Lhabab Düchen (see below), so what you see here is the product of 2 weeks work.

In drawing class we've been working on the full Buddha (sans robes), while in painting I've been working on offerings and auspicious symbols.

  1. What is that flaming looking symbol in the middle picture?

  2. It's known as a "norbu," a mythical jewel from the oceans used in offerings to the dieties. You can see them in many, if not most, thangka.

    Norbu is also a fairly common male name among Himalayan Buddhists.
